ABC debuted two more new shows on Tuesday night—The Mayor and Kevin (Probably) Saves the World—both to modest numbers.
The Mayor, at 9:30 p.m., did a 1.2 in primetime’s key demographic of adults 18-49 and 4 million viewers, while Kevin, starring Jason Ritter, opened at 10 p.m. to a 1.0 in the demo and 4.2 million viewers, tying CBS’s NCIS: Los Angeles in the demo. In total viewers, however, NCIS: LA averaged 9.2 million, more than double what either Kevin or NBC’s Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders did. Menendez barely led the 10 p.m. hour among adults 18-49 with a 1.1.
ABC also debuted new seasons of The Middle, Fresh Off the Boat and Black-ish on Tuesday night. The Middle, at 8 p.m., opened its ninth and final season with a 1.6 in the demo and 6.2 million viewers, leading into Fresh, which did a 1.4 and 4.5 million viewers. Black-ish debuted its fourth season with a musical episode on slavery, titled “Juneteenth,” that riffed both off of Broadway smash Hamilton and Schoolhouse Rock. It scored a 1.5 in the demo and 4.7 million viewers for its efforts.
Meanwhile, NBC continued to come on strong on Tuesday nights with The Voice turning in a 2.3 among adults 18-49 and 10.42 million viewers to win the 8 p.m. hour and This Is Us winning the evening with a 3.1 in the key primetime demographic and 11 million viewers.
CBS aired NCIS at 8 p.m., which is losing actress Pauley Perrette. Now in season 15, NCIS averaged a 1.4 in the demo and led the night in total viewers with 13.5 million. At 9 p.m., Bull once again took a hit from This Is Us, averaging a 1.2 among adults 18-49 and a strong 10.8 million viewers.
Fox’s Tuesday night line-up of Lethal Weapon, The Mick and Brooklyn Nine-Nine all were even with their prior-week premieres at a 1.1, 0.9 and 0.6 in the key demo, and 4.1 million, 2.4 million and 1.7 million viewers, respectively.
NBC won the night in the demo with a 2.2 in the demo, while CBS took the viewer race, averaging nearly 11.2 million viewers to NBC’s 8.8 million.
