Hallmark Channel and Cable in the Classroom will partner to create a customized Civil Rights Movement school curriculum based on the network’s original movie, “The Watson’s Go To Birmingham.”

Chronicling the experiences of an African-American family heading from Michigan to the racial hotbed of Birmingham in 1963, “Watsons” is set for a September 20 premiere on Hallmark Channel. The curriculum derived from it will involve a “Watsons Go To Birmingham” Teacher Guide offering parents and educators a turnkey lesson plan, streaming video resources and archival photos for students grades 4-12. The goal of the Guide, according to Hallmark officials, is to give fresh context to the beginnings of the Civil Rights Movement.
