Eurosport, an international sports provider with programming available in more than 50 countries, is adding the United States to its roster.

Under a deal between majority owner TF1 Group of France and Discovery Communications, which currently owns 20% of Eurosport, viewers in the US will have access to Eurosport TV.

Beginning September 28, Discovery said it would turn a block of programming on its Velocity channel into “Eurosport on Velocity.” Events are scheduled to include highlights from the FIA European Rally Championship, the British Superbike Championship, the Silk Way Rally and the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge.

Discovery said that “Eurosport on Velocity” would air every Saturday, with encore presentations on Sunday.

“‘Eurosport on Velocity’ is one more way we are strengthening Velocity’s connection with our target audience,” Bob Scanlon, general manager for Velocity, said in a statement. “As the only home for Eurosport in the US, Velocity is delivering unique programming that no other US-based network can offer to viewers. We’re excited to be the American flagship for such a well-established, high-quality brand like Eurosport and look forward to working with the Eurosport team.”

Eurposport, which launched in 1989, currently broadcasts in 20 languages and reaches 131 million homes across 54 countries. Eurosport 2 broadcasts to 66 million households in 18 languages across 51 countries.

According to Eurosport Group CEO, Jean-Thierry Augustin, “This is the first programming agreement with Discovery since our partnership was forged at the end of 2012. It’s a great example of the powerful synergies and opportunities we can create together. For the first time in Eurosport’s history, American viewers will have a sight of our channel’s expert sports TV production and best-in-class commentary.”

Brief Take: For the first time in its 24-year history, Eurosport TV’s racing programming will be available to viewers in the US.
