21st Century Fox has decided to stop airing its Fox News on pay-TV service Sky in the U.K, it said Tuesday in a statement.
“We have concluded that it is not in our commercial interest to continue providing Fox News in the U.K.,” the company said in a statement. “Fox News is focused on the U.S. market and designed for a U.S. audience and, accordingly, it averages only a few thousand viewers across the day in the U.K.”
Local news viewers in the U.K. tend to watch the BBC, ITV, Sky News and other British networks, reports The Hollywood Reporter. Fox News does not air on any other services in Great Britain beyond Sky.
Pulling the news service ends a long-running deal with the pay-TV giant, of which 21st Century Fox owns 39 percent and is bidding to own fully. The U.K.’s culture secretary, Karen Bradley, is currently reviewing the deal to decide whether or not to refer it to Ofcom, Britain’s competition regulator.
