YouTube, a free service since its inception, has decided to go ahead with the idea of monthly subscription fees, starting small with a few channels charging viewers monthly payments to see their content.

Sesame Street and Magnolia Pictures are two channels taking part in the monthly subscription offer so far. YouTube is calling it a pilot program with about 30 partners as of now, and will still offer its free content on its other channels. Most channels offer viewers to opt in for a fee that lies between $.99 and $2.99 per month.
