​On June 1, WPTY Memphis becomes WATN-TV Local 24. The rebrand is parent company Nexstar’s efforts to better serve the local community and advertising partners in Memphis with more relevant daily news.

Nexstar purchased WPTY from Newport Television last June, along with 11 other stations, for $285.5 million. Its debut as WATN coincides with Nexstar’s opening of a 27,000-square-foot HD facility that will enable it to produce more than 40 hours of local news coverage a week, under the Local 24 brand. Nexstar stations WJKT Jackson (Tenn.) and CW affiliate WLMT will also operate under the Local 24 brand.
