Let’s be honest: the only thing anyone really cared about at HBO’s part of press tour is when is Game of Thrones coming back? (Never mind about that Jon Snow question. We’ll know soon enough.)
The answer: April 24. Everyone will have to make do with Vikings or Shannara Chronicles until then.
The white walkers, dragons, queens and others players of the violent game will be joined by the third-season premiere of Golden Globe-nominee Silicon Valley and the fifth-season premiere of Emmy-lauded Veep, promising a massive evening for the premium cable network.
After HBO’s formal session came to an end, reports emerged that HBO is close to signing the producers for seasons 7 and 8, although both of those already seem like a fait accompli.
Vinyl— the obscenely high-powered series about the 70s music scene in New York, created by Terence Winter (Boardwalk Empire) and executive produced by Mick Jagger and Martin Scorsese—will premiere February 14. The TCA’s were buzzing about Scorsese and Jagger’s appearance at the panel via satellite, joined by stars Bobby Cannavale, Ray Romano, Olivia Wilde and others.
HBO also offered first looks at two of its newest films with panels of their own.
Confirmation, a drama starring Kerry Washington as Anita Hill, bringing the Clarence Thomas scandal to life, comes to HBO sometime in April.
The Rick Famuiywa (Dope) -helmed film also stars Greg Kinnear, Grace Gummer, Erika Christensen, Jeffrey Wright and Wendell Pierce as Judge Clarence Thomas, the Supreme Court justice accused of sexual harassment in 1991.
All the Way features Bryan Cranston as Lyndon B. Johnson, reprising his role from the Tony-award winning Broadway play. The Jay Roach-directed film arrives in May, and also stars Anthony Mackie as Martin Luther King Jr., Melissa Leo, Bradley Whitford, Frank Langella and more.
