After a big moment in “The Sound of Music Live!” tonight on NBC, a viewer might hear “My Favorite Things” start up again, but this time during the commercial break.
In a deal with presenting sponsor Walmart, NBC has created ads that will air throughout the live broadcast tonight that follow the Brooks family (and their 12 children) as they clean up, cook and put the kids to bed. The twist? Each of the five :30 ads will feature the family singing along to “Sound of Music” hits just after that song has been performed on the live show.
The family will sing songs like “My Favorite Things” and “So Long, Farewell” while they complete household tasks (using Walmart products, of course).
“The Sound of Music Live!” airs on NBC tonight, Dec. 5, at 8 p.m.

Brief Take: This live broadcast is a big bet for NBC, and by creating these ads internally, the network will be able to make an extra mark on the entire night, expanding into ad time with a natural retail partner.
