USA’s upcoming hacker drama Mr. Robot is targeting millennials and cord cutters with a (very) wide release strategy for the show’s pilot this summer.
The pilot episode, like many new series, will be available before the USA premiere June 24.
But unlike some new shows, Mr. Robot will be available to stream on select editorial partners and across VOD and TV Everywhere platforms a full month ahead of the linear premiere.
Starting May 27, Mr. Robot’s pilot episode will be available on USANetwork.com, the USA Now App, Hulu, YouTube, iTunes, Xfinity On Demand, Amazon Instant Video, Google Play, Vudu, Xbox Video, PlayStation Video, and M-GO, Twitch, IMDb, EW.com, THR.com, Telemundo.com, Terra.com, Latina.com, The Verge.com and throughout the Crave Online network.
The pilot will stay up on theses sites until June 5. More premiere partners are expected to sign on.
“We are mirroring Mr. Robot’s themes of anti-conformity and anti-establishment by breaking the rules for how to bring this award-winning series to market,” said Alexandra Shapiro, USA Network’s EVP of marketing and digital. “Our goal is to get as many influential, diverse and passionate general market and Hispanic fan bases to watch the pilot well in advance of its linear premiere so they become evangelists for the series.”
The premiere episode, which first debuted at SXSW this March, airs June 24 on USA, with a simulcast on NBC Universo with Spanish subtitles.
USA Network is also partnering with colleges around the country for advanced screenings of the Mr. Robot premiere with the help of Universal’s CampusU network.
