FX Networks plans to launch “The Simpsons” on FXX in August with a 12-day marathon of the iconic animated series, the company’s chief executive John Landgraf said at their upfront presentation Wednesday.

The binge programming would represent the longest continuous marathon in the history of broadcast television, Landgraf said.

The animated series will also get a brand new mobile app that curates all-things-Simpsons, and would be separate from the FXNow offering currently available to mobile users.

“Think of it as a comprehensive, beautifully curated digital library of all things ‘Simpsons,’” said Landgraf. “I’m absolutely blown away by what I’ve seen. This could well be the best app I have ever seen.”

Landgraf also confirmed that critical darling “The Americans” is coming back for a third season, and said that with FX, FXX, and FXM, the company’s slate of original programs would rise from 11 to 20 next year.

And although he said the forthcoming TV version of “Fargo” is among the best things they’ve ever put on TV, he said that a second season of what the network is now calling a limited series wasn’t guaranteed, even if the show, which is executive produced by Joel and Ethan Coen, is a huge success.

Brief Take: There’s a big reason for FXX’s big “Simpsons” push: they spent big money—an estimated $750 million—on the syndication deal.
