U.S. Spanish-language media company Univision is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, starting Wednesday, Sept. 15, with a multiplatform campaign celebrating the values, achievements and contributions of Latinos in America.
The campaign will highlight the U.S. Hispanic experience with original segments, spots and vignettes appearing in its flagship shows, on Univision.com’s Hispanic Heritage Month resource guide and across its digital, social, sports and music platforms.
“As the leading Hispanic network in the country, we are proud to lead with culture and celebrate the richness of our community for Hispanic Heritage Month. Our longstanding commitment to informing, empowering and entertaining Hispanic America is at the heart of everything we do,” said Jessica Rodriguez, chief brand and impact officer, Univision Communications, in a statement. “We look forward to continuing to highlight the vibrant diversity within our community with content that speaks to the heart and showcases our shared cultural heritage.”
A multiplatform, five week-long Hispanic Heritage Month programming roadblock will air across all Univision platforms starting Wednesday.
First, Univision will celebrate El Grito with “Un Solo Mexico, La Fiesta,” a two-hour special honoring Mexican Independence Day hosted by Maria Antonieta Collins and Gabriel Soto live from El Zocalo in Mexico City.
Despierta América and Noticiero Univision Fin De Semana will kick off the month with special segments about Latinos living the American Dream on their own terms. A series of special segments and interviews with on-air network talent, including Satcha Pretto, Rafael Araneda, Lindsay Casinelli, Raul de Molina, Pamela Silva and Borja Voces will air across Univision’s entertainment and news shows. The interviews, which look to celebrate each personality’s respective heritage, will air on Despierta América, El Gordo y La Flaca, Primer Impacto, Noticiero Univision and TUDN.
The Hispanic Heritage Month online resource hub on Univision.com will provide content and tools to assist Latinos as they celebrate shared cultural traditions, including movie and TV suggestions, podcasts, books, traditional recipes hand-selected by Despierta América’s Chef Yisus. A brand new virtual experience will launch on September 27, where visitors can virtually visit 20 of the Spanish-speaking countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.
PrendeTV, Univision’s free, premium ad-supported streaming service, will launch a curated Hispanic entertainment hub in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. The hub will feature seven curated video-on-demand channels, highlighting movies, novelas, comedies and more, offering more than 1,000 hours of family-friendly viewing.
Hispanic audio network Uforia will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with 20 special playlists of music from all Hispanic countries in Latin America that will be available exclusively on the Uforia App. These playlists will highlight such Latin music legends as Marco Antonio Solis, Celia Cruz and Johnny Pacheco as well as today’s Latin music superstars, including J Balvin, Bad Bunny, Calibre 50, Camilo, Natti Natasha and more. In addition, Uforia will commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month with the launch of an all-new brand campaign.
Univision’s bicultural and bilingual initiative—Se Habla USA—will highlight Latino changemakers in communities across the country as well as spotlight Latino small business owners throughout the United States on Se Habla USA’s social media platforms.
In addition to Univision’s efforts across its media platforms, the company is hosting various community events and airing special coverage across the country throughout September and October. From New York, Miami and Chicago, to Los Angeles, Houston and Dallas, among others, Univision stations in cities nationwide will hold digital town halls and coordinate with local social justice organizations on partner events for their local communities.
