Headed into May, we’re all still mostly quarantined but at least there’s a lot to watch.

TV takes us into lots of places in May—into the future with Amazon’s Upload and into the past with Netflix’s Hollywood. Hulu’s The Great gives us an alternative, snarkier version of Catherine the Great’s Russia, while TNT’s Snowpiercer considers what life might be like if what is left of humanity lived on a high-speed train that continually circled the frozen Earth. Mark Ruffalo plays twins in HBO’s limited series, I Know This Much Is True, based on the best-selling novel by Wally Lamb.

There are also new animated shows on Hulu with Solar Opposites and on AppleTV+ with Central Park.

Late in the month, HBO Max will launch, releasing that much more content into the world.
