KWTX Waco, Texas, wanted to make a big splash to announce its new sports anchor, Troy Hein, who just joined the station from Allentown, Pa.
So it pulled some strings to recruit another Troy to help them out in a spot that would air locally during CBS’ broadcast of Super Bowl 50.
Just so happens this Troy has his own connection to the Super Bowl: former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman, now an NFL announcer, is himself a Super Bowl MVP.
One of the station’s news anchors, Julie Hayes, had a personal connection to Aikman through a friend of a friend, so she reached out.
And when it rains it pours so the station also was able to get another NFL Hall of Famer, Mike Singletary, to come on board. That ask might have been a bit more of a sure thing since his daughter works at the station.
Station GM Mike Wright credits Jon Black, KWTX’s promotion director, and Adam Tabaja, the station’s operations manager, with the spot’s creative and production.
You can also take a peek behind the scenes.
