Time Warner Cable will not, despite a report in the Los Angeles Times on Monday stating otherwise, issue credits to the more than three million customers who have been affected by its August 2 blackout of CBS stations in New York, LA and Dallas.

The LA Times article said TWC had offered a $4 credit for subscribers who lost both CBS and Showtime during the blackout, but according to the cable company, it charges customers for the overall value of its cable package, and the pieces of that package are subject to change at any time. Customers who subscribe to the add-on pay channels Showtime and The Movie Channel, however, will receive a credit retroactive to the first day of the blackout.

Brief Take: Time Warner Cable is trying to calm customers’ ire via some reimbursements—basically a marketing ploy, and a meager one at that—while its retransmission consent dispute with CBS rages on. Meanwhile, CBS could be losing as much as $400,000 per day in revenue and retransmission fees due to the dispute.
