Three shows were renewed for second seasons on Wednesday: FX’s Legion, starring Dan Stevens; HBO’s Crashing, starring Pete Holmes; and CBS All Access’ The Good Fight, starring Christine Baranski.

All three are buzzy premium entries.

Legion, which is an extension of Marvel’s X-Men universe, premiered on Wednesday, Feb. 8, to 3.27 million total viewers and 1.8 million viewers among adults 18-49 in live plus three day viewing, according to Deadline. That’s below two other recently premiered FX dramas: Kurt Sutter’s The Bastard Executioner, which was canceled after one season, and Tom Hardy’s Taboo, which was just renewed for a second season.

Still, Legion is critically acclaimed and looks like nothing else on television.

“The first season of Legion was a stunning achievement,” said Eric Schrier, FX co-president of original programming, in a statement. “More than a new series, Legion is a wholly original take on the super hero genre. Our thanks to Noah Hawley for taking the creative risks and shattering expectations. It’s a privilege to work again with Noah, his producing partners, the outstanding cast and our partners at Marvel Television on another season of Legion.”

Legion stars Stevens as mutant David Haller, who is trying to sort out the mysteries of his super-powered brain, along with Aubrey Plaza as his friend Lenny, Rachel Keller as his girlfriend Syd and Katie Aselton as his sister Amy. Jean Smart also stars as therapist Melanie Bird, along with her team of specialists.

Noah Hawley, who also created and executive produces Fargo for FX, executive produces along with Lauren Shuler Donner, Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb, Jim Chory and John Cameron.

Crashing is based on Pete Holmes’ early career as a stand-up comic and is executive produced by Holmes and Judd Apatow. The series is studded with cameo appearances from comics, including Artie Lange, TJ Miller (who also stars on HBO’s Silicon Valley) and Sarah Silverman.

Besides Apatow and Holmes, Judah Miller co-executive producers along with producers Oren Brimer, Josh Church, Igor Srubshchik and Dave Rath.

Finally, The Good Fight was spun out of CBS’ The Good Wife. The show stars Baranski, Cush Jumbo, Rose Leslie, Delroy Linda, Erica Tazel, Sarah Steele and Justin Bartha.

“We’re only a few episodes into the first season and the reaction from CBS All Access subscribers and critics alike has been phenomenal,” said Marc DeBevoise, president and chief operating officer, CBS Interactive. “This series and its characters are just beginning and we can’t wait to see where Robert and Michelle King, their creative team and the amazing cast take The Good Fight next.”

Robert and Michelle King serve as showrunners and executive producers of the series, which they co-created with Phil Alden Robinson. Ridley Scott, David Zucker, Liz Glotzer, Brooke Kennedy and Alison Cross also serve as executive producers.

The new season of The Good Fight will premiere in early 2018.
