​There’s no denying that reality television is the low-cost ratings-generating genre that forms the backbones of many cable (and broadcast) schedules.

But who are the players calling the shots?

“The Hollywood Reporter” peeled the curtain back on the reality world in their April 11 print edition, and came up with their ranking of the 25 people who are running the show when it comes to the singing competitions, dating shows, and naked adventures keeping our attention on the small screen.

The ranking comes at a crucial time for the reality TV marketplace, according to the trade, as “franchises like American Idol and Dancing With the Stars are showing their age as many producers and networks increasingly are concerned with identifying the next big thing.”

The list is heavy on U.S.-based sellers, with One Three Media founder Mark Burnett topping the chart.

He’s followed by Gordon Ramsey and Ryan Seacrest in the number-two and -three spots, respectively. Warner Bros.’ unscripted and alternative chief Mike Darnell comes in fourth, with Shine America unscripted television president Eden Gaha rounding out the top five.
