As the end of the U.S. presidential election draws near, E!’s latest promo for The Royals took advantage of the political turmoil with a spot featuring the show’s Queen Helena (Elizabeth Hurley) assuring Americans that merry old England is ready to welcome everyone back with open arms.
“How’s that whole president thing working out for you?” she quips. “Missing home are we? It’s been a few centuries since your Boston Tea Party mishap and look who’s getting royally tea-bagged now.”
With the title “Make America Great Britain Again,”— an obvious play on Republican nominee Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” campaign slogan — Queen Helena continues:
“Paul Revere warned everyone, ‘The British are coming!’ Now I’m warning you, your next president is coming.”
She ends with a final message:
“We’ll be expecting you ... God. Save. Me.”
The Royals follows a fictional royal family at the center of a corrupt monarchy. The show also stars William Moseley, Alexandra Park, Jake Maskall, Tom Austen, Genevieve Gaunt, Rocky Marshall, Victoria Ekanoye and Andrew Cooper.
Season three of The Royals returns Sunday, December 4 at 10 p.m. on E!.
