Based on the best-selling series of books by Bernard Cromwell, The Last Kingdom made its way to Netflix by way of the BBC, which aired the series for two seasons of eight episodes each before passing the torch to the streaming service.
The series tells the story of Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon), a warrior who was born a Saxon but raised by Danish Vikings. Now he serves the English King Alfred (David Dawson), but his heart lies with his Northern home of Bebbanburg.
Season three sees some new characters come on the scene, including Ola Rapace as Danish warrior Bloodhair; Thea Sofia Loch Naess as the seer Skade; Timothy Innes as King Alfred’s heir, Edward; and Magnus Bruun as Cnut.
The Last Kingdom is produced by Carnival Films, with Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant executive producing. Stephen Butchard adapted the books into a TV series, and also serves as an executive producer. Chrissy Skinns is series producer and Cait Collins is a producer. The series is distributed worldwide by NBCUniversal International Distribution.
All ten episodes of the season will drop on Netflix in the U.S. and the U.K. on Monday, Nov. 19. It will be released at a later date in and will be released at a later date across Africa, Belgium, China, Greece, Israel, Italy, the Middle East, the Netherlands, the Nordics and Poland.
