The 2013 ESPYS will be handed out and hosted by Jon Hamm on July 17 and ESPN is rolling out a special series of promos to get folks pumped.
Titled “Happened,” the 2013 ESPYS campaign finds athletes reliving their favorite inspirational stories, epic performances and legendary moments from the past year (outside their own sports, naturally) in a loose, conversational style that makes each spot feel like a mini-vignette.
In the below clips from the campaign, Derek Jeter talks about Peyton Manning and Adrian Peterson in light of the “Best Comeback Athlete” ESPY category and Ray Lewis discusses the “Best Breakthrough Athlete” category. Other athletes featured in promos leading up to July 17 include:
• Danica Patrick on her hometown Chicago Bulls
• Carmelo Anthony on the Baltimore Ravens winning the Super Bowl
• Grant Hill on Adrian Peterson’s comeback
• Eli Manning on brother Peyton Manning’s comeback
• Kerri Walsh on Buster Posey’s comeback
• Candace Parker on LeBron James’ dominance
• Landon Donovan on the LA Kings’ rise
• Tony Gonzalez on seven-year-old Jack Hoffman’s touchdown at Nebraska’s spring football game
• Alex Morgan on Lionel Messi
• Amare Stoudemire on his hometown Tampa Bay Buccaneers
• Justin Tuck on Notre Dame vs. University of Alabama for the BCS Title
