A founding member of production and design company Imaginary Forces, Karin Fong directs and designs for film, television and environments. She’s designed title sequences for numerous feature films, including Ray, The Truman Show, Charlotte’s Web, The Pink Panther 2 and Terminator Salvation. Her most recent film project is the upcoming documentary Magic Trip, for which she’s created a visual language for Ken Kesey’s acid-fueled adventure. Her television work earned her an Emmy for main title design and most recently includes the openings of AMC’s Rubicon and HBO’s Boardwalk Empire.
What does being creative mean to you?
Feeling that my imagination has a chance to live up to its potential.
What inspires you?
Optical illusions.
What’s your passion?
Travel, whether physically or through a portal, like a well-told story.
What is the trait you most deplore in yourself? In others?
Pride in both, since what you can’t stand in yourself you tend not to like in others.
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Creating children’s books.
What profession would you not like to do?
Butcher. Very squeamish. But I do appreciate the craftsmanship of a good one.
Where do you go to be alone?
The bathtub.
What is your current state of mind?
Happily scattered.
