Turner Classic Movies has long been comfort food, a blessedly old school network that celebrates the past. But increasingly, TCM has responded to the content-starved, mobile world we’re living in. Now TCM serves its comfort food everywhere, expanding its reach beyond the living room.

This past March, the sixth annual Turner Classic Movies Classic Film Festival took over Hollywood Blvd, with dozens of iconic movies screening across several legendary venues such as Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. The event was simultaneously a thank you to die-hard fans — who traveled from all over the world for the festival — and a primer for its upcoming on-air content.

The network has re-launched its TCM Movie Locations Tour in both New York and LA. Both adventures pair real-life movie locations with clips and commentary by TCM host Ben Mankiewicz in a special bus filled with stadium seating.

This spring, TCM launches “The Great Movie Ride” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Disney World, an attraction that captures some of the most famous moments in film history.

Vacation starved TCM lovers can sail from Miami to the Grand Cayman on the Disney Magic for the network’s annual movie-stuffed TCM Classic Cruise, taking off November 1.

If fans don’t want to travel to New York, LA or Florida, they can find TCM in their local multiplexes, thanks to TCM and Fathom Events’ ongoing relationship that brings classic movies back to the big screen for special anniversary events.

It doesn’t get much bigger than the 50th anniversary of The Sound of Music (#SoM50th), arriving in theaters for a special two-day theatrical rerelease April 19 and 22. The evening will feature a specially produced intro by TCM host Robert Osborne, and anyone can enter the Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La-Ti-Sweepstakes by voting and sharing his or her favorite song from the movie on social media. Prizes include the 50th Anniversary Blu-ray box set, the soundtrack and passes to see the event.

But for fans who are happy in their living room, or want to catch TCM on the go, there’s the free TCM Watch app. Using the app, viewers can beam into TCM’s livestream from either coast, or stream any of its on-demand movies commercial free and in high definition.

On social media, @tcm has ongoing dialogues with their fans, be it on Twitter, Facebook or the network’s Movie Morlocks blog.

TCM knows that movie watching is a social experience no matter when the movie was made, and has leveraged this across the U.S., be it in bus, boat, theater or lap.
