HBO and AMC top the list for the 2016 Producers Guild Awards for TV series and specials, honoring both long-running series and new shows this year.
The 27th Annual Producers Guild Awards will announce film nominees on Jan. 5, and all the winners will be presented on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016 in Los Angeles. Until then, however, take a look at how just a few of the TV nominees promoted their launches and how long-running shows got started.
The Norman Felton Award for Outstanding Producer of Episodic Television, Drama:
Mad Men: The AMC series debuted key art that had many speculating over Don Draper’s fate.
For the sake of nostalgia, take one more look at Mad Men’s award-winning and trend-setting opening title sequence by Imaginary Forces:
Better Call Saul: AMC hoped that Breaking Bad fans would stick with its troubled lawyer for its spinoff, posting teasers and real-life billboards to hire the faux attorney.
The Danny Thomas Award for Outstanding Producer of Episodic Television, Comedy:
Silicon Valley: For its latest season, the Silicon Valley cast filmed a crossover spot to promote HBO NOW.
For its very first season, however, the group wasn’t so in sync.
Transparent: The Golden Globe-winner doesn’t officially debut its second season until Dec. 11, but it’s already one of the most talked-about streaming series among critics and fans alike.
Its first season on Amazon presented a much more playful tone, differing from its more somber approach this time around:
The Award for Outstanding Producer of Live Entertainment & Talk Television:
The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon: The new-ish late-night host was under plenty of scrutiny when he took over at NBC, but pleasantly surprised critics when he pulled in more than 11 million viewers on his first night, which included the “Evolution of Hip-Hop Dancing” below, signaling what was to come in his viral powerhouse.
The Colbert Report: Colbert (the character) didn’t have much faith in whoever was bound to replace the legendary David Letterman, but he managed to congratulate the new host as he pulled in big numbers during his last months at the Comedy Central chair.
