Syfy’s The Expanse picks up right where it left off when it returns for season three on Wednesday, April 11 at 9/8 c.

Earth, Mars and The Belt are headed to war, while the secret of the mysterious protomolecule—which could be the key to the system’s salvation or destruction—remains locked.

The Expanse, from Alcon Television Group, takes place in a colonized solar system 200 years in the future, with humans having expanded to Mars and the asteroid belt as Earth became less and able to support the ever-growing population. Now, each society has strong differences with the others, with the belters feeling like a mistreated underclass and only the lucky few getting to remain on Earth.

The series is based on the bestselling book series by Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck (under the pen name James S. A. Corey), and stars Steven Strait, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Dominique Tipper, Cas Anvar, Wes Chatham and Frankie Adams. Elizabeth Mitchell and David Strathairn also join the season-three cast in recurring roles.

Oscar-nominated screenwriting duo Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby serve as executive producers and showrunners, alongside Naren Shankar.
