Susanna Dinnage has been named global president, Animal Planet, said David Zaslav, president and CEO of Discovery Communications, and Jean-Briac Perrett, president and CEO of Discovery Networks International on Thursday. She will report to both and be based in London.

Dinnage, who previously was president of UK and Ireland and chief content officer for Discovery Networks International, will manage Animal Planet on a global basis. The network’s team will be based dually in the U.S. and the U.K., with contributors coming from all over Discovery’s worldwide businesses, including Group Nine Media’s The Dodo. Beyond managing Animal Planet as a cable network, Dinnage and her team will focus on expanding the brand on all screens, including short-form, mobile and direct-to-consumer.

“As Discovery continues to strategically pivot and deliver our content to consumers across all screens and services, it is more important than ever that our brands are structured and managed in a way that best exploits their global potential,” said Zaslav in a statement. “We are confident that this new global model, combined with Susanna’s expert leadership and the worldwide appeal of our animal content, will maximize Animal Planet’s power across linear channels and create new digital opportunities around the world.”

Dinnage has worked in the TV business for more than 20 years, joining Discovery in 2009. She has since worked as general manager of the brand’s UK and Benelux businesses. Most recently, she developed a partnership between Discovery and Amazon, launching Discovery and Eurosport on Amazon channels.

Prior to this, Animal Planet was led in the U.S. by Group President Rich Ross and General Manager Patrice Andrews. Andrews is departing Discovery.
