As General Dru-Zod rises to power, Seg-El must do whatever it takes to defeat the supervillain and save his home planet from destruction.

That’s the foundation for the second season of Krypton, the series that follows Superman’s grandfather, Seg-El, as he fights to restore hope to his planet. Syfy released the official trailer and premiere date on the anniversary of the Man of Steel’s first comic book appearance.

The trailer offers a look at the many villains Seg-El will face, including the return of Zod, Brainiac and Doomsday—who appeared in the series’ first teaser. We also meet Lobo, the intergalactic bounty hunter portrayed by newcomer Emmett J. Scanlan.

Syfy also released a behind-the-scenes video, which reintroduces the trailer’s footage with commentary from the series’ cast and crew. They say season two will feature an expanded universe and storyline as the war against Zod begins.

Based on the DC characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the series stars Cameron Cuffe, Georgina Campbell, Elliot Cowan, Ann Ogbomo, Rasmus Hardiker, Wallis Day, Aaron Pierre, Ian McElhinney and Shaun Sipos. It is executive produced by David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, The Dark Knight trilogy) through his Phantom Four banner, alongside showrunner Cameron Welsh (Constantine).
