The Alien films have inspired many over the years, not the least of them artists.
In conjunction SundanceTV’s Alien movie marathon in September, the network launched a fan art contest on Tumblr to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the franchise.
The call for submissions runs through September 9, and out-of-this-world artistic renderings, gifs, drawings, paintings and more have been rolling in on SundanceTV’s Tumblr page.

“We knew this loyal, dedicated fan base would jump at the chance to show off their creativity on Tumblr,” Jan Diedrichsen, executive director at SundanceTV, told The Drum.
The top three finalists will be shown on air during SundanceTV’s “Alien Invasion,” from Sunday, September 18 through Tuesday, September 20. The network will broadcast a combination of Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection starting at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. central, and one winner will be announced each night.
The finalists will also have their work featured on Sundance.tv and Sundance’s Tumblr page.
Judges include employees in the creative departments of SundanceTV and Tumblr, along with Carrie Henn, who plays Rebecca “Newt” Jorden in the Aliens franchise.
“The entire platform is built around creating and sharing original content,” Diedrichsen said of the fan art campaign. “Tumblr users are creative and they love sci-fi and movies. Alien may have been around for more than three decades, but the franchise continues to resonate with audiences today.”
