The US Senate Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, and the Internet convened today to discuss the state of the video industry.

On hand for the hearing was John McCain, who introduced a bill last week promoting a la carte cable options for consumers, and National Cable and Telecommunications Association president Michael Powell, an ardent resister of government intervention in his industry. DISH EVP R. Stanton Dodge was also there, a proponent for McCain’s side of the issue, believing consumer choice is threatened by bundled pay-TV packages and that the industry will not be harmed by an a la carte option.
Gordon H. Smith, president and CEO of the National Association of Broadcasters, was also on hand.
Broadcasting & Cable reports the group agreed Washington should be involved with the changing video marketplace, but the extent of its involvement remained unclear. Click here to see their roundup of the hearing.
