Star Trek: Discovery’s main title sequence uses rough designs and raw schematics of items such as the new ship, spacesuits and the iconic phaser gun for an artistic opening to the series.

Set to a theme song by Jeff Ruso, the composition pays homage to that of the original show, but takes on its own unique tone that dictates the pace of the sequence as drawings beautifully blend into planets and gadgets, starships and eyes.

CBS All Access debuted the minute-and-a-half-long main title sequence just before the show’s Sunday-night premiere.

Star Trek: Discovery follows the voyages of Starfleet on their missions to discover new worlds and new life forms, and one Starfleet officer who must learn that to truly understand all things alien, you must first understand yourself, according to CBS.

The series features a new ship and new characters while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers, the network says.

It is produced by produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Alex Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout, Bryan Fuller’s Living Dead Guy Productions and Roddenberry Entertainment. Kurtzman, Fuller, Heather Kadin, Gretchen J. Berg, Aaron Harberts, Akiva Goldsman, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth serve as executive producers.
