Nola Darling is back in Spike Lee’s first TV series, She’s Gotta Have It —update on his feature film that debuted 30 years ago.
Netflix’s trailer begins with a glimpse of Lee as the original Mars Blackmon as he introduces the new Nola Darling—(DeWanda Wise, Shots Fired)—a free-spirited artist making it happen for herself in Brooklyn, NY as she juggles three lovers: “The Cultured Model” Greer Childs (Cleo Anthony, Divergent), “The Protective Investment Banker” Jamie Overstreet (Lyriq Bent, The Book of Negroes), and “Da Original B-Boy Sneakerhead” Mars Blackmon (Anthony Ramos, Hamilton).
Also featured in the trailer are Nola’s therapist played by Heather Hadley, and Nola’s friends Clorinda Bradford (Margot Bingham, Barbershop 3), Shemekka Epps (Chyna Layne, Precious), and Rachel (Elise Hudson.)
Lee directs all 10 episodes of the series, and serves and creator and producer. Tonya Lewis Lee is executive producer, along with producers Barry Michael Cooper and Lynn Nottage.
She’s Gotta Have It premieres on Thanksgiving Day, November 23.
