Showtime released a trailer for the world premiere of critically-acclaimed documentary WEINER, chronicling the 2013 sexting scandal of former congressman Anthony Weiner—just as news surfaced that his marriage is ending due to another incident.
The trailer debuted August 29, just before Weiner’s wife and longtime Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin announced she is separating from her husband in light of new reports of him again sending sexually suggestive photos. Abedin stuck by Weiner three years ago, and their relationship is a focus of the documentary.
This latest scandal involves an alleged photo of Weiner barechested with white boxers and a bulge while his 4-year-old son slept beside him.

“After long and painful consideration and work on my marriage, I have made the decision to separate from my husband,” Abedin said in a statement Monday. “Anthony and I remain devoted to doing what is best for our son, who is the light of our life. During this difficult time, I ask for respect for our privacy.”
WEINER, which premieres Saturday, October 22 at 9 p.m., was the U.S. Grand Jury Prize at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. Directed and produced by Josh Kriegman and Elyse Steinberg, it offers unrestricted access into the life of Weiner and his family.
A young congressman on the cusp of higher office, Weiner underwent a humiliating resignation after admitting to sexting allegations in 2011. Two years later he ran for mayor of New York City in what was supposed to be a comeback, but was forced to admit to new sexting allegations that ended his political aspirations.
