Australian public broadcaster SBS’ new four-part drama, Sunshine, turns the spotlight on the South Sudanese living outside of Melbourne, Australia.
The limited series stars Anthony LaPaglia and Melanie Lynskey and follows the life of a young Sudanese man, Jacob, (Wally Elnour) who plays for an Australian basketball team called the Sunshine Kings. Jacob is on the verge of being picked up by U.S. scouts to play for a college team in America, but he needs the Kings to up their game to help him get where he wants to be. So he recruits a local man, Eddie (LaPaglia), who played basketball in the U.S. himself, to coach.
Later, Jacob gets caught up in a police investigation involving a teenage girl from a wealthy Melbourne suburb, and finds himself answering to local lawyer Zara Skelton (Lynskey).
Sunshine premieres on SBS and SBS On Demand on October 18.
