Ryan Tudhope has joined creative studio Framestore as creative director and VFX supervisor, working on both its film and episodic teams.
Tudhope most recently served, as part of Framestore’s Method Studios team, as production-side VFX supervisor on Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick, which is easily the highest-grossing film of 2022 at $1.4 billion.
He also worked alongside Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinki on Chris Hemsworth’s Spiderhead as well as on Amazon Studios’ The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

A member of both the Television Academy and the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, Tudhope has worked as a creative director and VFX supervisor for 25 years. Over those years he has worked on more than fifty feature film and episodic television projects. He was the co-founder and CEO of VFX studio Atomic Fiction, growing the studio to more than 350 employees in both Los Angeles and Montreal. While at Atomic Fiction, he oversaw projects for such films and TV shows as Ad Astra, Deadpool, Blade Runner: 2049, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Ghost in the Shell, Game of Thrones, Star Trek Beyond and, finally, Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, which earned him an Emmy nomination.
“Anyone—and I think that must mean everyone by this point – who’s seen Top Gun: Maverick knows just how thrilling a cinematic spectacle it is. The forensic attention to detail and absolutely seamless ‘invisible’ FX work played a huge part in this, and they speak to both Ryan’s creative and technical skill and how he led the Method Studios team from pitch to final pixel. We’re delighted to have him join our growing global team, and we can’t wait to be able to talk about his next project,” said Fiona Walkinshaw, chief executive officer, film and episodic, in a statement.
“Having recently been on a whistlestop tour of Framestore’s London, Montreal and LA studios I’m even more pleased to be joining the team. Framestore is a collaborative, collegiate studio with a focus on learning, development and pushing the creative and technical envelope - exactly the kind of working environment I sought to foster with Atomic Fiction. Whether I was talking to artists, producers or members of the R&D team, I encountered a passion for storytelling and innovation, and I couldn’t be happier to be part of such an open and inclusive company,” Tudhope said, also in a statement.
Framestore’s slate of recent and upcoming film and episodic projects includes Thor: Love and Thunder; The Little Mermaid; Moon Knight; Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness; 1899; Beast; Slumberland; His Dark Materials; Ms. Marvel; The School For Good and Evil; Outer Range; Foundation; The Wheel of Time; Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile; Peter Pan and Wendy; The Sandman and Paddington in Peru.
