Queen Latifah stars in an upcoming Lifetime TV movie FLINT dramatizing the water crisis in Flint, Mich., where cost-cutting measures led to drinking water contaminated with lead and other toxins.

The TV film is based on the Time Magazine cover story “The Toxic Tap” by Josh Sanburn. The environmental scandal made national headlines in 2016, and residents are still without clean drinking water.

Lifetime focuses on the women impacted by the crisis. LeeAnne Walters (Betsy Brandt, Breaking Bad) Melissa Mays (Marin Ireland Sneaky Pete), and Nayyirah Shariff (Jill Scott, Steel Magnolias) join forces after discovering the drinking water is contaminated, resulting in a slew of devastating medical problems for their families.

When their claims go unheeded, they band together to expose the wrongdoings committed by their reckless, bean-counting government officials whose carelessness caused irrevocable harm to the lives of its residents, according to Lifetime.

A+E Networks also released a PSA encouraging viewers to make a donation to The United Way of Genesee County Flint Water Fund in support of the residents who are still affected.

FLINT is executive produced by Latifah, Katie Couric, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. It premieres October 28 at 8 p.m.
