CBS’ “Person of Interest” is taking surveillance to a whole new level, looking to Facebook fans to help out The Machine.

The Machine, an entity within the show that helps find people in danger and predict attacks, is about to get some help from Facebook. On the eve of its third-season premiere, “Person of Interest” will use a new Facebook app called You May Be a Person of Interest in order to use fans’ photos in upcoming episodes.

Through the integrated social app, Facebook fans can submit photos of themselves, edit the image using effects available on the app, then have the option of posting the image and submitting it to “Person of Interest” producers who will review the submitted photos and choose which to include in the upcoming season.

“Person of Interest” Season 3 premieres on September 24 on CBS.

Brief Take: “Person of Interest” is taking its social-media marketing one step beyond just posting fans’ Twitter handles during broadcasts. Recruiting fans to submit personal photos via Facebook involves viewers with the show’s Facebook page while offering the potential reward of getting to see themselves on the show, engaging viewers both online and on air.
