As 2016 comes to a close, FX Networks once again released its count of the number of scripted original series now available to watch across all platforms.

And the number is: a record-setting 455, up from 421 in 2015 and 266 five years ago.

“Peak TV was once again far from peaky in 2016, with a record 455 scripted original series across broadcast, cable, and streaming sources,” said Julie Piepenkotter, executive vice president, research, FX Networks in a statement. “This estimate reps a 8 percent increase over just last year (421 in 2015) ― but an astonishing 71 percent increase over five years ago and 137 percent over a decade ago.”

And you thought it was hard just to watch all of the shows on Tim Goodman’s Top Cable Series of 2016 list.
