Nina Tassler, a network chief with one of the longest tenures in the business, is stepping down from her role of CBS Entertainment chairman, the network said Tuesday.
Tassler, who was named president of CBS Entertainment in 2004, announced her plan to step down at the end of this year, remaining with the network through 2017 as an adviser. The CBS chief was vital in developing CBS’ current late-night lineup and is known for finding marketable broad hits like CSI.
She cited “other creative interests” as the reason for her departure: “I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Leslie, my colleagues at CBS and all the actors, producers and writers who were part of this incredible journey,” said Tassler in a statement. “I will always love this place, yet it is time for my next chapter, and I’m thrilled that I can pursue my other creative interests while still being part of the company.”
Variety reports that one of those creative projects is a book she is currently writing with Variety’s Cynthia Littleton, What I Told My Daughter: Lessons from Leaders On Raising the Next Generation of Empowered Women.
She will be replaced by Glenn Geller, EVP of current programming for CBS Network Television Entertainment Group. Geller has been with CBS since 2001
“When Nina told me her plans, we both knew we had an obvious successor in our own ranks,” President and CEO of CBS Leslie Moonves said Tuesday. “Glenn brings outstanding skills to all parts of the creative and production process, and he has led large programming teams both at the network and studio that oversee our biggest franchises and hit programs.”
