Instead of just simultaneously releasing Netflix originals across the world, the streaming giant is starting to take a more region- and language-specific approach to new series.
In Brazil, Netflix will exclusively premiere “A Toca” (above), a Portuguese-language comedy show, in Brazil on Friday, August 9. Netflix hopes that this strategy will get each region more involved with Netflix’s programming and begin to build loyal customers worldwide. It’s also about taking a chance on a series that may work well in one region or country that might not work elsewhere.
This news is coming on the same day as Netflix‘s announcement that it will team with the Weinstein Co. for a new take on Marco Polo for release next year.
Brief Take: Netflix has a unique opportunity to tailor its content per country, region and language. By trying out certain series in one region, it can gauge its viewership’s interest as well as create an engaged and loyal niche audience in one area at a time.
