Mist and broken mirrors set a supernatural tone in Netflix’s teaser for The Innocents.

“What you see … Is not what you see. Love … Changes everything,” according to the spot, which is rife with images of out-of-focus love letters, fog-covered hills and shards of glass.

The series stars Memento’s Guy Pearce, alongside teenagers June (Sorcha Groundsell, Clique, Iona, Sleeping Lions) and Harry (Percelle Ascott, Wizard vs. Aliens,
The Weekend Movie), who run away from their repressive families to be together. Or so they think.

They quickly realize that nothing is what it seems as they are thrown into a journey of self discovery that derails their innocent dream, Netflix says. Secrets kept from them by their respective parents test their love to the breaking point, and the extraordinary gift they possess unleashes powerful forces intent on dividing them forever.

In this world, the only way to survive is to change.

The Innocents is produced by UK-based New Pictures, led by Charlie Pattinson, Elaine Pyke and Willow Grylls. The series is created by Hania Elkington and Simon Duric. Chris Croucher serves as producer. Farren Blackburn is executive producer, alongside Charlie Pattinson, Elaine Pyke and Willow Grylls, who directed six of the eight episodes.

The Innocents premieres in 2018.
