Netflix revealed its first piece of virtual reality content with a segment that gives viewers an inside look at hit paranormal series Stranger Things.
Available as both a two-minute 360-degree video and VR experience using a headset, the viewer starts in a dark house and is led to visually follow strung Christmas lights that suddenly start popping on.
At a certain point a phone rings, and a voice over the receive warns “He’s here! Turn around! Behind you!” The scene depicts a slightly altered tense moment from the show. Dubbed as “a love letter to the ‘80s,’ the Duffer brothers series stars Winona Ryder as a mother searching—with the help of friends, family and the whole town—for her son who mysteriously disappears. The investigation reveals secret government experiences, supernatural forces a strange little girl.

The company also launched an app on Samsung’s Gear VR headset where subscribers can watch 2D titles in a VR setting.
Chris Jaffe, VP of product innovation, said in February that the company is interested in VR and “where it could go in storytelling.”
