Netflix customers can clear off some of the clutter around their TV, because the streaming service announced Friday that it is getting integrated directly into some cable boxes.

The company has signed deals with three U.S. cable providers—RCN, Atlantic Broadband, and Grande Communications—each of which use cable boxes made by TiVo. The deals mark the first time the streaming service is being integrated directly into a cable box, eliminating the need for another external streaming device like a Roku or AppleTV.

No word yet on whether Netflix customers with the integrated boxes will get a discount on their monthly subscriptions, but they’ll at least have the added benefit of one less remote control to lose.

And CEO Reed Hastings told investors earlier this week that subscribers may eventually be able to pay their monthly fee directly through their cable bill.

By putting Netflix’s content alongside the rest of the television programming coming through the cable box, Netflix is hoping to compete better with HBO and other premium pay services.

The three companies in the first round of deals boast fewer than 1 million subscribers, but Netflix could bring more providers with TiVo-made boxes online, including, Suddenlink, Mediacom, Cable One and Blue Ridge Communications.

Brief Take: Netflix may eventually try to extend its cable box reach to non-TiVo models. But Friday’s deals signal that the company is pushing to become even more deeply integrated into the television industry landscape.
