NBC’s Blindspot was the top-rated new series in week one of the new season, averaging a 4.4 among adults 18-49 according to Nielsen’s live-plus-three-day ratings, which came out on Friday.

ABC’s Quantico, meanwhile, was the biggest gainer among new shows, gaining 1.2 or 63% to a 3.1 from a 1.9 in its opener last Sunday.

Fox’s megahit Empire was by far week’s the leader, averaging an 8.7 among adults 18-49, a ratings gain of two full points or 30%. Empire more than doubled the adults 18-49 number for every non-sports show on television other than CBS’ The Big Bang Theory, ABC’s Modern Family, ABC’s Scandal and NBC’s Blindspot.

Big Bang Theory climbed 36% to a 6.4 from a 4.7, and was TV’s most watched show, averaging 22.5 million viewers, even more than NBC’s Sunday Night Football, TV’s second-most watched show that week. Scandal gained 45% to a 4.8 from a 3.3.

Other new shows that did well after three days of viewing were NBC’s Heroes Reborn, adding 1.1 or 55% to a 3.1; CBS’ Limitless, jumping 1.0 or 53% to a 2.9; Fox’s Scream Queens, moving up 59% to a 2.7; and ABC’s The Muppets, gaining 0.9 or 31%.

Meanwhile, no new shows premiered on Thursday night and CBS’ Thursday Night Football match between Baltimore and Pittsburgh took a sizable chunk of the viewers, with 19.4 million people tuning in, a 19% increase from the same week last year.

ABC took the night with TGIT, with Grey’s Anatomy at 8 p.m. and How to Get Away With Murder both averaging a 2.3 among adults 18-49 for the night and Scandal, scoring a 2.8. In week one, Grey’s Anatomy gained 46% in L+3 ratings, jumping to a 4.1 from a 2.8, and HTGAWM gained 58%, moving to a 4.1 from a 2.6.

NBC was third with Heroes Reborn averaging a 1.6 among adults 18-49 and The Blacklist returning for season three at a 1.8. Heroes Reborn gained 55% in L+3, jumping to a 3.1 from a debut 2.0. The Player, starring Wesley Snipes, isn’t really playing, scoring a 0.9 in the demo in the overnights. In week one, The Player moved up 50% to a 1.8 from a 1.2 in L+3, so there is viewer interest there.

Fox saw Bones return for season 11 with a 1.1 in the demo, while Sleepy Hollow, a promising show in its first season, returned for season three to average a 1.0, a full point drop from its prior-season average.
