May is Mental Health Month, so NBC4 in Washington, D.C. is kicking off a multiplatform campaign on the topic of mental health, featuring newcasts, PSAs and special partnerships crossing over from on-air to online.
The campaign, called Changing Minds, launched May 1 and will continue all year long with news stories, personal profiles and a partnership with CrisisLink for a phone bank to offer callers additional help. NBC4 says they decided to start the campaign in response to a series of stories in the area that spoke to a need for more resources and information on the issue of mental health
“We identify and involve community partners in almost everything we do, but in this case, it is imperative that we are working with professionals to chip away at this problem that really affects all of us,” said Jackie Bradford, president and GM of NBC4.
Changing Minds lives as a microsite on NBC4’s website and features stories on everything from women and addiction to the Obama administration’s “brain initiative” to learn more about the mind. NBC4 is also hoping to get the community more involved, with local events and sponsorships with nonprofits as well as a special focus on the issue at next year’s NBC4 Health & Fitness Expo.
