NBC Sports Group is preparing to give this year’s US Open golf championship, June 8-11, more than 110 hours of coverage, including 17 live tournament hours on NBC; more than 56 hours on the Golf Channel, including news and highlights; and more than 44 hours of regionally focused programming on Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia and NBC10 Philadelphia.
NBC will also present simulcast coverage through the apps NBC Sports Live Extra and Golf Live Extra, as well as on the digital outlets GolfChannel.com, NBCSports.com and CSNPhilly.com. The resulting effort is the most comprehensive coverage the US Open has ever received, and will include innovative new production techniques designed to bring viewers even closer to the players. Golf Channel live telecasts, for instance, will feature robotic and jib cameras tuned into the players’ practice area, as well as a “fly cam” affixed to a cable stretching across that same space.
For golf fans, these developments are a dream come true, though newbies tuning in for the first time might be a little overwhelmed by it all. Learn more at Philly.com.
