NBC News used the opportunity of the Tokyo Summer Olympics to unveil its rebrand of Nightly News with anchor Lester Holt.

Working with Richmond, Va.-based design agency Arts & Letters, the 60-second spot overlays footage with simple text in goldenrod, white and all caps—forgoing voiceover to make its point.

The spot grabs scenes from so many of the major events of the last year—and there were many—including massive wildfires in the West, the riot at the Capitol on January 6, the pandemic, the death of George Floyd and more.

“When emotions are high, when fears overwhelm facts, when things are at a tipping point, when we need dialog over drama, we have an anchor … that calms, an anchor that steadies, an anchor when we need one most … the anchor for America,” the spot reads.

Holt has served as the anchor of NBC Nightly News since 2015.
