NBC offers viewers a look behind the scenes of music-making with this campaign for new reality series Songland.
The campaign focuses on three of music’s biggest names—Ryan Tedder, Ester Dean and Shane McAnally—who have written hits for the likes of The Jonas Brothers, Rihanna and Kacey Musgraves.
It takes viewers dynamically through the process, cutting in video from the artists’ well-known videos with original footage of the songwriters at work. Each spot ends with the songwriters performing their song in the rawest setting.
Each episode of the 11-episode series includes the three mentors and one chart-topping artist—Charlie Puth is the featured artist in episode one—listening to five songwriters performing their original work. The panel will the debate the finer points of the performance and then the top three performers will each be paired with a mentor who will work together to further develop the song. The winner of each episode will have their song recorded and released by that episode’s artist.
Songland comes from executive producers Audrey Morrissey of NBC’s The Voice, Eurythmics co-founder and producer Dave Stewart, Maroon 5’s Adam Levine and OneRepublic’s Tedder and it is produced by Live Animals in association with Universal Television Alternative Studio, Dave Stewart Entertainment and 222 Productions.
Songland premieres May 28 on NBC.
