Nashville will return to CMT with new episodes starting Thursday, Jan. 5. The CMT network just unleashed an exclusive first trailer of the returning series.
Season-five will pick up right where the season-four finale left off – with Rayna (Connie Britton) and Deacon (Charles Eston) facing a new normal with Maddie (Lennon Stella) now back home and Highway 65 struggling financially. The shocking news about Juliette (Hayden Paniettiere) creates a wave of emotions throughout Nashville and sets Rayna off on a journey of discovery.
A special two-hour season-five premiere of Nashville will preview on Thursday, December 15, at 9 p.m. on CMT. The hourlong special preview will be the first new episode of the country music drama to air on CMT since the cabler partnered with Hulu to bring the series back from cancellation last June, according to the Hollywood Reporter. (ABC canceled Nashville after four seasons the month prior.)
As part of the deal, the first of the two-hour premiere will be available for streaming the next day on Hulu, which is running a catch-up marathon of seasons 1-4:
Produced by Lionsgate, ABC Studios and Opry Entertainment, production is currently underway in Nashville. The series is executive produced by Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick (the creators of Thirtysomething), Steve Buchanan and Callie Khouri. Jayson Dinsmore and Morgan Selzer executive produce for CMT.
The season will officially kick off on Thursday, Jan. 5, at 9 p.m. on CMT.
