“More mermaids are coming,” Freeform teased on social media for its trailer for season two of Siren.

The series takes place in the small coastal town of Bristol Cove, known for its legend of once being home to mermaids. A mysterious girl arrives in town and proves the folklore to be true as the predatory beings return to reclaim their right to the ocean. The once-sleepy fishing community becomes a hunting ground for both sides.

“But are they seeking revenge, or is something more catastrophic driving them out to sea?” Freeform asks.

Season two focuses on drilling by an oil company that forces even more mermaids to the surface of Bristol Cove, threatening to bring conflict once again. Meanwhile, marine researchers Ben (Alex Roe, The 5th Wave) and Maddie (Fola Evans-Akingbola, An American Exorcism) continue to establish a bond with mermaid Ryn (Eline Powell, Game of Thrones), not only to protect her but to try to help save her entire civilization. Ian Verdun (Life’s a Drag) and Rena Owen (Star Wars) andalso star.

The show is based on a story by Eric Wald and Dean White, who serve as executive producers. Emily Whitesell (Finding Carter) serves as showrunner and executive producer, along with executive producers Brad Luff, Nate Hopper, and RD Robb
