Melissa Leo stars as Goldie, a tough but nurturing comedy club owner who mentors a group of competitive, close-knit comedians in Showtime’s new series I’m Dying Up Here.

The show provides a fictional look at Los Angeles stand-up comedy scene in the 1970s as they try to joke their way to stardom.

“This club is the only runway to the Tonight Show,” Goldie says. Judging by the trailer she may be the comedians’ toughest critic, who’s also in it for herself.

“You’ll never do something that doesn’t benefit me first,” she says. “That makes me the devil you know.”

I’m Dying Up Here also features Ari Graynor (Bad Teacher), Michael Angarano (The Knick), Clark Duke (Hot Tub Time Machine), Andrew Santino (Mixology), Erik Griffin (Workaholics), RJ Cyler (Power Rangers), Al Madrigal (The Daily Show) and Jake Lacy (Obvious Child).

Created and executive produced by Dave Flebotte and executive produced by Jim Carrey, Michael Aguilar and Christina Wayne, the series premieres Sunday, June 4 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
