Keynotes Kick off the Mornings
The conference includes a healthy mix of broadcast network affiliate meetings, keynote presentations, receptions, happy hours and educational sessions.
As the event gets underway McGraw, host and executive producer of daytime talk show Dr. Phil, will kick off the day on Wednesday with a keynote presentation where he’ll share his unique insights and core personal and professional strategies.
“In addition to sustaining an iconic television show for 15 years, he has built a brand that is recognized and trusted worldwide,” Kazanjian said. “We look forward to hearing his keynote address about becoming a positive force of change in your own life and also about what is in store for his new show, DailyMailTV, premiering in the fall.”

Thursday morning’s keynote session, “State of Our Art” is a perennial favorite that highlights the best of the best in promotional content, circling the globe to showcase TV and online videos that inspire action and change.
Sessions that Inspire
Thursday then gives way to educational sessions that are broken down into three tracks: Leadership, Innovation and Craft.
The leadership portion will dive into topics like how to turn analytics into action, secrets for juggling projects and deadlines, and techniques for developing your own personal leadership skills. In “Lessons to Lead By,” Valari Staab, president of NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations, will share wisdom that has helped her manager her career.
Craft sessions use tangible examples to demonstrate hands-on skills such as new tactics to incorporate into weather forecasts, creative projects executed with no budget, and tips and tricks for working with programs such as Avid and Adobe Premiere Pro.
Station Summit is also bringing back last year’s “Battle of the Promo Superstars!” where marketing teams are given the same news story and a tight deadline to turn around a tune-in promo.
The innovation track highlights OTT trends and their impact on viewing habits, best practices for extending your digital dollars, techniques for engaging with audiences on social media, and methods for navigating stations through an evolving, ever-changing future.
NewsReady Guitar Giveaway
And it wouldn’t be Station Summit without Stephen Arnold Music raffling off guitars.
For this year’s “NewsReady Guitar Giveaway” Arnold was inspired by a waterproof guitar he ran across and decided to tie the theme into the different sections of a newscast.
In addition to the weather segment, he sought other guitars to match up with news blocks including politics, morning shows, investigative reporting and sports, and even threw in a guitar signed by Bruce Springsteen.
