The third and final season of Ovation’s Versailles hones in on the art and culture, greed and deception, sex and politics, and duplicity and murder that collided in the court of Louis XIV.
When the series returns, Louis XIV (George Blagden, Black Mirror, Vikings) resolves to regain control of his own life, Versailles, and France itself, as he aims to expand his empire and impose his power on all of Europe.
But new challenges are brewing both inside and outside Versailles.
Rebellion is in the air as people are tired of paying taxes and resistance is growing. Inside the palace, Madame de Maintenon (Catherine Walker), his new favorite mistress, grows in influence and power within the court. And Louis becomes more dogmatic. He won’t relent in his quest for absolute power, convinced of his own divine powers, and refuses to tolerate any disagreement, whether from his people, the Protestants or the pope himself.
Meanwhile, Queen Marie-Thérèse (Elisa Lasowski) becomes intimate with her cousin, Louis’ archenemy Leopold (Rory Keenan), and Prince Philippe (Alexander Vlahos) suspects his brother is hiding a dark secret that only a mysterious prisoner hiding behind an iron mask can corroborate.
The final season of Versailles premieres October 6 at 10 p.m. ET on Ovation.
